Haman was elevated to a position of authority in the kingdom, and everyone was commanded to bow before him, but Mordecai refused. Enraged by Mordecai’s refusal, Haman’s anger grew beyond one man and he plotted to destroy all the Jewish people throughout the empire, convincing the king to issue a decree for their destruction. What looked like a political decision was actually the beginning of a spiritual and covenant crisis for God’s people.
There are moments when faithfulness to God may place us at odds with culture, authority, or popular expectations. Esther 3 reminds us that compromise can sometimes seem easier in the moment, but obedience to God matters even when the consequences feel costly or uncertain.
