After some time passed, the king searched throughout the empire for a new queen, and Esther, a young Jewish woman being raised by her cousin Mordecai, was brought into the process. Esther found favor with those around her and was ultimately chosen as queen, though she kept her Jewish identity hidden at Mordecai’s instruction. At the same time, Mordecai uncovered a plot to assassinate the king and reported it, and the event was recorded—quietly setting up a future turning point in the story.

God often prepares people for future assignments long before they understand why they are where they are. Esther 2 reminds us that faithfulness in hidden places and small acts of obedience may become part of God’s answer to needs we cannot yet see.
