During the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem, the Book of the Law was discovered. When it was read aloud before the king, Josiah was deeply moved, recognizing both the authority of God’s Word and the people’s disobedience. “The king…renewed the covenant in the presence of the LORD—to follow the LORD and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.” Josiah’s response demonstrates the power of God’s spoken Word to awaken conviction and lead to renewed, wholehearted devotion.
