In this chapter, the priest Jehoiada courageously organizes a plan to protect and reveal Joash, the rightful heir to the throne who had been hidden from Athaliah. Joash is crowned king, and Athaliah is overthrown and executed. The people renew their covenant with God, and proper worship is restored in the temple.

God often works through faithful individuals who act with courage and wisdom at the right time. Renewal begins when people commit themselves again to God and restore what has been neglected.
