Proverbs 9 presents wisdom and foolishness as two competing invitations, each calling people to follow a different path. Wisdom invites the simple to leave foolishness behind and walk in understanding, while folly offers stolen pleasures that ultimately lead to death. At the center of the chapter is the truth that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

Every day we are responding to competing voices that promise different versions of the good life. True wisdom begins when we decide that God knows better than we do and allow reverence for Him to shape our choices.
