“These things I have spoken to you so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be made full,” v11. This full chapter is conversation between Christ and His disciples immediately before the passion experience. Much of what they would see in the coming week would not be joyful, yet the purpose and promise of Christ was that their joy would be full.
This word to the disciples is also one for us to embrace. Fullness of joy is not dependent on joyful experiences. The grave would be real, but only for three days, then it would be an empty grave. The promise is joy, His full joy. Let the grave take care of itself.
