“The oppressor will come to an end, and destruction will cease” (17:4). Isaiah declared that God was against “the oppressor” and the destruction caused by human sin. Soon, Israel’s close neighbors, Moab and Damascus (15:1; 17:1), and Israel herself (17:4-6), would face judgment for committing the same idolatry and cruel greed that had poisoned Canaan generations earlier. They all faced judgment, yet they all had hope: “In love a throne will be established ... one from the house of David” (16:5).

Anyone who desires it can approach the “throne of love” where Jesus sits and give full allegiance to Him. He calls us (from every nation) to turn our backs on impurity, greed, and self-idolatry and follow Him (16:5).
