Chapter three describes the restoration of temple worship as an altar was rebuilt and the foundation was laid. “Despite their fear of the people around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offering on it to the LORD, both the morning and evening sacrifices.” Though surrounded by uncertainty and opposition, the returning remnant proceeded, following Mosaic Law, sacrificing morning and night. True worship remains steadfast, even in seasons of fear, uncertainty, and opposition. Like the returning exiles, may we faithfully honor God even when the path before us feels uncertain.
