The test of success often is internal in the form of pride. But there are external factors also, often in the form of acclaim that can seduce one from his or her goal. If the acclaim of followers is resisted, they can become angry. In Acts 14, a man is healed listening to Paul. Word circulated, and crowds began to acclaim Paul and Barnabas as Zeus and Hermes, v12. When they rejected being worshipped, Jews, v19, won over the crowds and turned on Paul, stoned him and left him for dead.
The message of Christ is divisive between good and evil, not between political parties, races, denominations or any other dichotomy. Part of success is keeping that clear.
