Most of the story of Ahab summarizes his battles with Syria (Aram) and other nations. 1 Kings 21 portrays the personal greed that drove him. A neighbor, Naboth, had a vineyard that Ahab wanted. Ahab tried to buy it or trade for it, but it was Naboth’s family inheritance and he would not sell. Ahab pouted, and Jezebel reminded him he was king and “deserved” the vineyard. She wrote letters, falsely accusing Naboth of “cursing God and the king” v13, and incited men to stone him.
Ahab was weak but “sold himself to do evil because Jezebel, his wife, incited him,” v25. Her evil resonated in his heart; he was without excuse.
