This Psalm, widely attributed to David, is written in language like the blessing of a priest.  The “priest” is petitioning that the name of God would be security (Prov. 18:10), that help would come “from the sanctuary,” Ps 20:1,2. David saw spiritual help as the only source of deliverance.   The second section, vs 4 and 5, seems to be a response of praise and celebration by the people who are being blessed.

The last section is David’s own response, “Now I know…,” vs 4ff.  He anticipates help from heaven, v6, and his confidence becomes a boast, not of himself, but of his Deliverer; “Some boast in chariots, some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord,”.  May the Lord bless those who read this, and our boast always be in Him.
