Moses called for two acts of worship. First, Israelites were commanded to offer the “first of all fruit” (2), giving thanks as they remembered God’s rescue from Egypt and bringing them into “a land flowing with milk and honey” (9). Second, the tri-annual tithe was given to the “Levites, the sojourner, the fatherless and the widow.” In these two acts, the people of God declared that “the Lord is OUR God” (17), knowing He first declared they were his “treasured possession” (18).

Jesus taught us that we worship well by fulfilling these two “laws”. We love God and give thanks for his great salvation, and as his beloved people,  we care for our neighbors - especially the vulnerable around us.
