From the beginning, Solomon made mistakes, but he loved the Lord, v3, At Gibeon he offered a thousand burnt offerings. God appeared to him in a dream and said, “Ask what you wish me to give you.” Solomon’s answer pleased the Lord. He expressed gratitude for God’s blessings to David as David had sought to obey God. Solomon saw the connection, and asked for wisdom “to judge God’s people, to discern between good and evil,” vs 6-9.
The prayer was pleasing to God. What Solomon had not requested was as pleasing as his request for wisdom, vs10-14. Jesus said, “Do not be worried…..” Matt. 6:25-34. He even referenced Solomon as an example, v29. God still listens for those who will “seek first” His kingdom.
