In response to criticism of Christ for his compassion, Jesus continues his parables.  “A certain man had two sons…”, v11ff. The younger asked for his inheritance even while his father was living. His father gave it to him; he wasted it all and found himself desperately  impoverished, feeding pigs, jealous of the pigs. Finally, broken, humiliated, repentant, without excuse, he went home. His father took him in, embraced him, restored him to sonship. The older brother was furious!

God’s grace feels good when I receive it but I wonder if there is some “elder brother” in us that comes out when others receive it;  what is clear is our heart needs to reflect the heart of God in His compassion.
