What the Pharisees and scribes meant as slanderous gives us one of the most compassionate pictures of Christ: “This man receives sinners and eats with them” v3. In response, Jesus told a parable, not just to reveal the heart of God, but to force them to examine themselves. He began, “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one, … does not go after the one lost until he finds it?  And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders rejoicing,” and brings it home.

This parable reflects the heart of God. He searches for the lost, and through us they are brought back and heaven rejoices. Can you imagine what a celebration in heaven must be like?!
