Saul’s hatred of David made him see David as his problem and sought to kill him. David, however, refused to kill Saul when he had the opportunity. He knew God would remove Saul in God’s own time; he would not carry the guilt of killing God’s anointed (vs 8-11).
Opportunities are moments or circumstances that allow one to act. They do not determine one’s action, however. One’s response to opportunity reflects one’s own heart. David turned a moment for an easily justifiable act of getting rid of his enemy, into a moment of witness of his own faith in the ways of God. One who has a heart after God will do that.
